Meet Gillian
TCM educator focused on food energetics and human energy
My story
Â
Hello and welcome to Hum.en Education! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.
My name is Gillian, and I have spent over 30 years exploring how the human body works as a deeply connected system.
Early in my career, traditional nursing school taught me to view the body as separate mechanical parts (which is the right tool for the right times!). But when I discovered Traditional Chinese Medicine, I found a completely different paradigm: the body as a living ecosystem where every part communicates.
That holistic approach made immediate sense to me. I became a Registered Acupuncturist in British Columbia in 2001 and have been teaching TCM since 2005.
Over the years, my path as an educator has taken some incredible turns:
- Program leadership & curriculum design: I served as Program Director for the Eastern (Canada) Acupuncture Colleges, collaborating with a fellow instructor to design and build the entire curriculum from the ground up.
- International clinical work: I volunteered in Nepal, treating hundreds of locals from remote villages and training Himalayan monks in simple acupuncture, cupping, and acupressure so they could continue caring for their communities independently.
- Pan-Canadian Bootcamps: In 2008, I created these intensive acupuncture board-exam prep courses through my original company, LIFT Education Academy. I later expanded them on Pacific Rim College Online with two other expert instructors, helping thousands of students across Canada and internationally to pass their board exams.
- Pacific Rim College Online (PRCO): As a co-founder and CEO, I served as the primary creator and operational engine behind PRCO for almost a decade. Working alongside talented contractors and world-class instructors, I built the platform from the ground up, directing the high-end production, bringing the core curriculums to life, and teaching a suite of flagship TCM courses and webinars that are still available there today.

Why Hum.en?
Building and running a major online institution was an amazing chapter, but managing the day-to-day operations as CEO eventually took me away from what I love most: the actual teaching.
In 2025, I stepped away from my executive role at PRCO to simplify my focus. I created Hum.en to return to my core passion, bringing signature courses like Chinese Dietary Therapy into a dedicated home where I can give my full energy to the content. (And when I am not behind the camera teaching TCM, you can find me on set pursuing screen acting!)
I created Hum.en because I truly feel that TCM knowledge should be a birthright. It is an incredibly powerful tool for prevention and for helping you feel your best every single day (because your health truly is your wealth, as anyone who has been sick knows all too well!).
My approach
Â
In clinical practice, I repeatedly saw people eat "healthy" foods that completely clashed with their TCM constitution. For example, someone might drink cold smoothies while having a cold digestive system. Even the best food causes bloating if your body lacks the warmth to process it. Changing those food energetics transformed their health in days.
My goal is to teach you the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine so you can read your body's internal climate through simple signs like your tongue and daily symptoms. Once you know your pattern, you can easily adjust your food and lifestyle to stay in balance. Catching these subtle shifts early is the ultimate tool for prevention.
Having guided thousands of patients and students through this process, I created Hum.en to liberate you from endless, conflicting nutrition rules. No more guessing. You will finally learn how to use food as true nourishment for your unique body.
I look forward to helping you enrich your life with TCM.

"Very high quality. The instructor, Gillian, was well-read and an excellent and engaging teacher. I could tell she is passionate about whole food healing! The list of foods on the temperature chart, the grocery store video guide, were helpful tools, and the information on the flavours of food was indispensable."
